Microbiology results take several days. By then, inventory has moved.

Product may already be packaged or shipped. A late result can mean destroyed inventory, recalls, or production stopped for cleaning and investigation.

Rapid molecular methods. Automated for the factory.

Unburden combines molecular microbiology with lab automation to generate CFU-equivalent results at the point of testing.

03

Act

Receive a species-specific CFU-equivalent count while production decisions can still be made.

Take control of your decision making.

01

Increase productivity

Actively monitor microbiological conditions so cleaning cycles and production downtime can be safely minimised.

02

Make smarter inventory decisions

Direct inventory to the optimal value stream based on its microbiological condition—before it moves downstream.

03

Increase food safety

Reduce exposure to contamination and recall risk through real-time visibility of microbiological conditions.

Established methods, made operational.

The underlying molecular methods have been demonstrated in academic literature and validated studies. Unburden packages them into a load-and-run industrial workflow, validated alongside each customer’s existing method before deployment.

Where we work

We develop and prototype as members of Imperial College Advanced Hackspace at White City, with access to specialist biochemistry, digital manufacturing and engineering facilities. Our pilots centre on deployment at your facilities, because independent usability in the commercial context is our priority.

Questions before deployment.

What does Unburden measure?

Unburden is designed to produce species-specific, CFU-equivalent measurements that reflect viable organisms relevant to production decisions.

Who operates the system?

The workflow is being designed for easy use by QC line operators, without requiring specialist molecular microbiology skills.

How is the method validated?

Each pilot runs alongside the facility’s existing testing method so performance and usability can be evaluated in the relevant commercial context.

Where do pilots run?

At customer facilities. Independent operation in the environment where the system will be used is central to the pilot.
